B i o g r a p h y

 A passionate teacher, Alice Ji is equally at home as a soloist, collaborative pianist, and an educator. Born in Seoul, Korea, she has enjoyed a diverse performing career in the United States as well as her native Korea. A prizewinner of American Protégé Piano and String Competition, Alice Ji has performed at numerous prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall, Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater and Millennium Stage, Strathmore Mansion, Vianden Castle in Luxembourg, Straus Auditorium in North Carolina, Yuldong Memorial Concert Hall and Recital Hall at Dongduk Women’s University in Seoul, Grusin Hall at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

​​​She has also performed at various music festivals including Brevard Music Festival, Washington International Piano Festival, and Vianden International Music Festival. Alice Ji was selected to perform at multiple master classes including Pascal Rogé, Barbara Lister-Sink, Robert Weirich, and Christopher Harding. An advocate of contemporary music, she was invited to perform at the Pendulum New Music Concert Series at CU-Boulder. An active chamber musician, Alice Ji was awarded a full graduate assistantship at CU-Boulder and served as a piano accompanist. She is a recipient of numerous awards and scholarships from Dongduk Women’s University, Mu Phi Epsilon International Music Foundation, Brevard Music Festival, and the Vianden International Music Festival.

As a dedicated educator with extensive experience as a private instructor, and lecturer, Alice frequently gave lectures at seventeen universities in Seoul and throughout Korea. She also co-translated several American piano pedagogical publications into Korean.

 

She studied with the renowned pianist Hue-am Park (prizewinner at the Olivier Messiaen International Contemporary Piano Competition), earned her B.M. in Piano at Dongduk Women’s University, and received M.M. in Piano at the University of Colorado at Boulder under the tutelage of Dr. Andrew Cooperstock. She privately studied with Mr. Jose Ramos Santana, a professor at the Catholic University of America.

​Alice Ji is currently a faculty member at the International School of Music in Bethesda, and an adjudicator of Performance Evaluation and Certificate Program at the School. She has served on the jury of Young Artist Award Competition in Kentlands Mansion since 2013. She also teaches a small number of selected students in her private studio in Arlington, Virginia.

 

She is a performance member of the Friday Morning Music Club (FMMC) and performs regularly in the DC area. She is also an active member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Washington D. C. Music Teachers Association (WMTA), Maryland State Music Teachers Association (MSMTA), Virginia Music Teachers Association (VMTA), and Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association (NVMTA).
